Avant-Garde Fashion
Since graduating from Shenkar and presenting my final project, my challenge has been, and still is, to translate creative and innovative ideas into functional and flattering clothing. When I design practical and wearable items for everyday use, there are always limitations that prevent me from fully expressing the craziest ideas. Therefore, when the opportunity arose for me to return to being "Liat the student," I was very excited; not only because of the freedom to design without thinking about the final price or the complexity of execution, but also because of the unique opportunity to create a piece that is closer to the world of art. Such an opportunity was given to me in last week's alternative fashion show at Beit Ha'Ir: it was an avant-garde show where all the designers were given complete artistic freedom.

Last Thursday, I had the privilege of participating in a larger-than-life fashion exhibition at 'Beit Ha'Ir' in Tel Aviv. Nona Chalant, who hosted and produced the event, chose to wear a piece designed by me. It was a dress in pink and red hues, featuring hundreds of increasing slits. The silhouette I created was a kind of "blow-up" (BLOW-UP) of a large paper pattern worn on the body, paired with a special red evening bag that I designed with the same inspiration. All the details of the design process can be found here.

It was a unique opportunity for me to create an avant-garde piece without dwelling too much on the question of wearable/not wearable. Instead, I was able to simply create something from the gut and from the heart, and also enjoy the journey.

In the meantime, the piece is being showcased in the exhibition "The Flattened Land" at Beit Ha'ir, which will continue to be displayed for another month. You're all invited to come and see it up close! ๐
